Most of the notable restaurants in Ibiza Town are clustered together in tourist-filled areas such as the trendy marinas or the old town. Ancient People does not have the luxury of being situated in one of these envious positions but, lying just five minutes walk from the hub that is Sa Marina, it is just as easily accessible. Once you know it exists, there really is no excuse for not paying a visit, as this restaurant offers the best authentic Indian cuisine for miles and unrivalled value for money.
The Ibiza Town venue is an amalgamation of the two original businesses (bar and restaurant) that owner Robert Glans set up in 2000 in Playa d’en Bossa. Though small and unassuming from the outside, Ancient People posses tons of character and hosts a vibrant atmosphere, particularly in the evening. The inside is decorated with large murals and colourful Indian fabrics used for the cushions and drapes, giving the eating area a fantastic bohemian image. The chill out spot and secluded alcove provide the ultimate setting in casual dining, whereas the more traditional bar section gives customers the option to enjoy a few sociable drinks.
Ancient People has enjoyed great success with the locals, a crowd that keeps the restaurant busy through all twelve months of the year and makes it advisable to book ahead for weekend reservations. The set-price lunch menu is a big hit and includes a selection of favourites from the evening menu at just €9.50 for three courses. The food is fantastic; the best curry in Ibiza Town, full of flavour and served with delicious pilau rice and giant naan breads. All dishes are made fresh to order, but the service is in keeping with the culinary standards and is quick as well as friendly.
